Zaajira: Developing an AI Talent Platform

Last updated:

Build a recruitment platform for the African market that connects job requisitions to candidate profiles with automated screening, structured interview flows and an integrated skilling pathway — so employers can hire faster and candidates can close the skill gaps that get them shortlisted. The product had to work for high-volume entry-level roles across multiple countries, multiple languages and intermittent connectivity, while giving recruiters a familiar pipeline view and giving learners a guided upskilling experience.

What we delivered

  • Job-to-candidate matching engine ranking profiles against requisition requirements using structured competency signals
  • Interview automation flows including async audio and video screeners, calibrated scoring rubrics and configurable interview kits
  • Skilling engine built on LearnWorlds so candidates flagged with skill gaps can immediately enrol in targeted upskilling pathways
  • Recruiter dashboards covering pipeline health, time-to-shortlist, source effectiveness and candidate-funnel drop-off
  • Candidate-facing mobile experience tuned for low-bandwidth networks and African mobile carriers

Build scope

  • Web and mobile experience for candidates, recruiters and employer admins
  • Recruiter workflows: requisition intake, sourcing, screening, scoring, shortlisting, offer
  • Learning integration: LearnWorlds course catalogue mapped to in-demand role competencies
  • Identity and document handling for African ID standards and right-to-work verification
  • Analytics layer for cohort reporting on hiring outcomes vs. skilling participation

Outcomes

  • Reduced manual screening workload, freeing recruiters to focus on shortlisted candidates
  • Improved speed-to-shortlist through async screeners and AI-assisted ranking
  • Higher candidate engagement thanks to immediate, actionable feedback via the skilling pathway
  • A unified candidate-and-learner record that makes long-term workforce development reportable

How we know

Last updated:

In early 2026 we shipped Zaajira's first cross-border recruiter cohort across several African markets. Async video screeners and the AI ranking layer significantly compressed the recruiter's first-pass review time per requisition, and candidates flagged with skill gaps were enrolled into a LearnWorlds upskilling pathway within the same session — turning rejections into a measurable re-engagement pipeline rather than dead leads.

Statistic: The World Bank estimates that 10–12 million young Africans enter the labour market each year while only around 3 million formal jobs are created annually — the structural mismatch that makes embedded skilling, not just sourcing, the real recruitment lever in the region.
